# GroupApp MCP: What You Can Do

Everything you can do in GroupApp by asking an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT through the GroupApp MCP, section by section.

The GroupApp MCP lets you run your community by asking an AI assistant in plain language. It works with any assistant that supports MCP (Model Context Protocol), such as Claude and ChatGPT. This page lists what you can do in each part of GroupApp.

## How it works

1. **Connect GroupApp** to your AI assistant and sign in as the community owner or an admin.

2. **Ask in plain language**, for example: _"Create a members-only event next Tuesday at 6pm and remind everyone who RSVPs an hour before."_

3. **Review the preview.** Before anything changes, the assistant shows exactly what will change: which items, which members, what they will see or receive.

4. **Confirm.** Nothing is created, changed, sent or removed until you say yes. The assistant then makes the change and reads it back so you can see the result.

Reading information (lists, reports, member details) never changes anything and needs no confirmation.

**Good to know**

- The assistant can only reach communities you have connected, with the permissions you approved when connecting.

- When GroupApp adds new features to the MCP, they appear in your assistant automatically. You don't need to reconnect.

- Some things are still done in the GroupApp app, such as uploading files and taking payments. They are listed at the end of this page.

## Channels

Create and run channels, control who can see them, and post on your community's behalf.

**Find and review**

- List and search channels by name, with each channel's description, status, visibility and member count

- See a channel's members, how each one got access, and when they were added

- Check why a specific member can or can't see a channel

- Review a channel's full access and settings in one view

**Create and edit**

- Create a channel with a name, description and access level

- Rename it or change its description

- Upload or change the channel image, and set an emoji icon (a pasted emoji works)

- Customize the channel URL

- Assign a category, and create or edit channel categories

- Archive a channel (posts are hidden, members and settings are kept) or restore it

**Access**

- Set access to Open, Private, by subscription plan or by segment, and switch between them

- Add or remove plans and segments without replacing the ones already there

- Set public, community or restricted visibility

- Add or remove members one by one, or in bulk by plan, segment, role or status

- Set up a lock screen with your own message, button and link

**Settings**

- Layout (Feed, List or Card) and the default view

- Show or hide the Discussions, Events and Courses views

- Who can post: admins only, admins and moderators, or all members

- Post moderation, auto-join, member count, and leaving the channel out of the weekly digest

- Require post titles or cover images, hide cover images, and turn off comments and reactions

**Posts and conversations**

- List and search posts, with comment and like counts

- Publish a text post, edit it, or schedule it for later

- Cancel or resume a scheduled post

- Read comments and reactions, and reply to a post or a comment

**Example prompts**

- _"Create a private channel called Founders Circle and add everyone in the VIP segment."_

- _"Why can't Amara see the Mastermind channel?"_

- _"Schedule a welcome post in Introductions for Monday at 9am."_

**Good to know:** posts are text only. Add images, files or video to a post in the app.

## Courses

Build self-paced and cohort courses, sell them, and follow how learners are doing.

**Find and review**

- List and search courses with type, access, visibility, status, and lesson and enrolment counts

- Read a course's outline: sections, lessons, lesson types and what's published

- See a learner's progress (percentage, current lesson, completed lessons) and recorded activity

- Export a course's enrolments as a CSV, emailed to you

**Create and build**

- Create a course draft as self-paced or cohort, with a cover image and thumbnail

- Edit the title, summary and description

- Add sections and lessons, write lesson content, and publish or unpublish lessons

- Set drip schedules (release lessons after a number of days) and write the drip-release emails

- Add a YouTube, Vimeo or Wistia intro video

- Add presenters: community members or your own named presenters

- Assign categories and link community channels to a course

- Duplicate a course (sections, lessons, presenters and images are copied)

- Customize the course URL

**Access and pricing**

- Set access to free, one-time fee, subscription plan or segment, and switch between them

- Create offers, including hidden ones, with benefits

- Show or hide a price, and choose public, member or restricted visibility

- Set up the lock screen and its call-to-action button

- Choose who can join a course's events: students only, or the event's own access level

**Cohorts**

- Create a cohort with start and end dates, an enrolment deadline and a capacity

- Choose where its curriculum comes from, and whether to show seats remaining

- Assign instructors (owners, admins or course moderators) and link channels

- Set cohort prices, and set drip schedules for a cohort

- Close or reopen a cohort

**Learners and settings**

- Enrol or unenrol members, choosing the cohort for cohort courses

- Turn on moderation, turn off drip emails, require post titles or cover images, and turn off comments and reactions

**Learning pathways**

- Create and edit learning pathways, add courses to them, and set the pathway cover

**Example prompts**

- _"Create a self-paced course called Copywriting Basics with three sections and two lessons each."_

- _"Release each section 7 days after enrolment."_

- _"How far along is Cassandra in Understand Your YouTube Analytics?"_

**Good to know**

- Image sizes: course cover 1014×330, thumbnail 345×255, pathway cover 1014×330.

- Drip can only be turned on once a section has a published lesson, the same as in the app.

- An existing offer's amount can't be changed. Create a new offer instead.

## Events

Set up free or ticketed events, invite members and remind attendees.

**Find and review**

- List and search events by title, status or date

- Read an event's details, status, access, capacity and recurrence

- See attendees and RSVP counts

**Create and edit**

- Create an event draft with title, description, start and end time

- Set it online (with a meeting link) or in person (with a location)

- Set public or members-only visibility, a capacity and a custom URL

- Upload or change the cover image

- Make it recurring: daily, weekdays, weekly, every two weeks, or monthly (by date or by weekday), and edit the pattern later

- Publish or unpublish it

**Access and tickets**

- Make an event free or priced, and add ticket prices

- Set each ticket's name, description, benefits and who can see it, without changing its amount

- Limit an event to certain subscription plans or segments

**Attendees, invitations and reminders**

- RSVP members to a free event, or cancel their RSVP

- Invite specific members or a whole segment, and cancel pending invitations

- Schedule email reminders (minutes, hours or days before) with your own subject and message, or cancel them

- Check invitation and reminder records: when each one was sent and whether the mail system accepted it

**Example prompts**

- _"Create a members-only Zoom workshop on 12 November, 6–7pm, with 25 seats."_

- _"Invite the VIP segment to the workshop and remind everyone who RSVPs an hour before."_

- _"Make Founders Office Hours repeat every two weeks for 6 sessions."_

**Good to know**

- Event cover images: 1010×320.

- Invitations go out within about 15 minutes. RSVPs added this way get the same confirmation email as in the app.

- Records show an email as sent, not as delivered to the inbox. Delivery confirmation is coming.

- Charging attendees and issuing refunds stay in the app.

## Library

Create library resources, fill them with articles, embeds and videos, and control who can open them.

**Find and review**

- List and search library items by title, type, access or publication status

- Read an item's title, description, entries, prices and settings

- See who has been given direct access, and check why a member can or can't open an item

- See recorded views for an item

**Create and edit**

- Create a library resource as a video, audio, PDF, article or embed item

- Add, edit, remove and reorder entries inside an item: articles (with formatting), embeds (paste the embed code or a link) and web videos (YouTube, Vimeo or Wistia links)

- Add a cover image to any entry

- Edit the title, summary and description, and upload a thumbnail

- Assign categories and customize the item's URL

- Publish or unpublish an item

**Access and pricing**

- Set access to free, priced, subscription plan or segment

- Add or remove plans and segments without replacing the existing ones

- Add a one-time price (existing prices stay as they are), choose the default price, and show, hide or turn off a price

- Set public, member or restricted visibility

- Give or remove a member's direct access

**Example prompts**

- _"Create an article called Writing Hooks That Work and add an entry with this text."_

- _"Make the Templates bundle available to the Pro Plan only."_

- _"Who has direct access to The Ultimate Twitter Growth Guide?"_

**Good to know**

- Image sizes: library thumbnail 315×225, entry cover 695×254.

- Uploading video, audio or PDF files is done in the app.

## Schedule

Draft, schedule and send channel posts and emails from the Schedule dashboard.

**Find and review**

- Search the whole Schedule dashboard: post and email drafts, scheduled items and everything already sent

- Filter by type and status (draft, scheduled, cancelled, sent or published)

- Read any item, including past emails and posts with their content, audience and send time

- See recipient counts and each recipient's send record

**Posts**

- Create a post draft, save it unfinished and pick it up later

- Write rich content: bold, italics, lists, links, line breaks and @mentions of members

- Choose the channel, the title, the cover image (from images already in GroupApp) and who it posts as (an owner or admin)

- Turn the broadcast notification on or off

- Publish now, or schedule it for a date and time

- Edit a scheduled post, cancel it, or resume a cancelled one

- Rename a dashboard item without changing the post title, or duplicate it

**Emails**

- Create an email draft with a subject, rich content and an audience (for example a segment)

- Preview the email, or send yourself a test

- Send it now or schedule it for later

**Example prompts**

- _"Draft a post for Product Updates announcing the new course, posting as Romo, for Friday at 10am."_

- _"Email the Internal Team segment a reminder about Thursday's call. Send me a test first."_

- _"What's scheduled to go out next week?"_

**Good to know**

- To stop an email that's already scheduled, unschedule it in the app.

- Recipient records show when an email was sent, not whether it reached the inbox.

- Add a new cover image in the app first; it can then be picked here.

## Newsletters

Write, schedule and publish newsletters, and decide who can read them.

**Find and review**

- List published, scheduled and draft newsletters

- Read a newsletter's full content and settings

- Before you publish, see exactly who it will reach: visibility, access, plans or segments, whether email goes out, and the weekly email limit

**Create and edit**

- Create a newsletter draft with rich formatting (headings, bold, italics, lists, links)

- Set the author, cover image, URL and summary

- Publish it now, schedule it, or unschedule it

- Edit a newsletter, unpublish it, or delete it permanently

**Access and settings**

- Set access to open or by segment, and visibility to public, community or hidden

- Turn on "Subscribe to keep reading"

- Set up a lock screen with a title, instructions and button

- Close commenting

**Example prompts**

- _"Draft this month's newsletter with these three sections, with Cassandra as author."_

- _"Schedule it for Tuesday at 8am, community members only."_

**Good to know:** deleting a newsletter is permanent, and the assistant warns you before it does.

## People and segments

Look up members, manage their access, and group them into segments.

**Find and review members**

- Search members by name or email, and filter by plan, segment, role, status or days inactive

- See a member's full profile: plan, subscription, segments, courses, channels, events and last activity

- See a member's activity totals (posts, comments, visits) and recorded purchases

- Check what a member can access, and why

- Check a member's subscription status, and list your leads

**Manage members**

- Add new members, optionally on a free plan

- Invite people by email, list pending invitations, and revoke them

- Add or remove members from channels, courses, events and library items

- Block or unblock a member, or remove them from the community

- Cancel a member's subscription (no refund is issued)

- Send a member a direct message

- Read, create, edit and delete custom profile fields

**Segments**

- List and search segments, and see each one's members, when they were added, and whether they were added by hand or by a rule

- Search members within a segment, and check whether a member is in one

- Create a segment, edit its name and description, or delete it permanently

- Add or remove members by hand, one by one or in bulk

- Set automatic rules by role, plan and days inactive (all must match), see who would be added or removed before you apply them, or clear the rules

- Rule-based segments refresh on their own

- Use segments for channel, course, event, library and newsletter access, event invitations and email audiences

**Example prompts**

- _"Who hasn't been active in 90 days?"_

- _"Create a segment of everyone on the Pro Plan and show me who would be in it."_

- _"Invite jane@example.com to the community."_

**Good to know**

- Removing a member, cancelling a subscription and sending direct messages each need their own permission, which you approve when connecting.

- Paid plans can't be given to a member this way. Members join paid plans through checkout.

## Subscriptions and plans

Set up the plans people subscribe to and see who is on them.

**Find and review**

- List all plans with price, currency, billing interval, status and position

- Read a plan's settings, benefits, add-ons and segments, and copy its checkout link

- List a plan's subscribers, filter members by plan, and see a member's plan

- Check what a plan gives access to for a specific member

**Create plans**

- Create free or paid plans, individual or group (with a minimum number of seats)

- Set the price and currency, one-time or recurring billing, and the billing period (for example monthly, yearly or every 3 months)

- Add a free trial on paid recurring plans, with or without asking for a card

- Duplicate a plan

**Edit plans**

- Change the name and description

- Set and order the plan's benefits

- Add courses and library items as optional or required add-ons

- Add subscribers to a segment automatically

- Turn off self-cancellation (with your own message) and set a page to send people to after purchase

- Collect billing addresses and tax IDs

- Activate, hide or disable a plan, and change the order plans appear in

- Give a member a free plan

**Example prompts**

- _"Create a $29 monthly plan called Inner Circle with a 7-day free trial and three benefits."_

- _"Add the Copywriting Basics course as an optional add-on to Inner Circle."_

- _"Move Inner Circle to the top of the plan list."_

**Good to know**

- Like in the app, a plan's price, currency, billing period, type (individual or group) and trial are set when it's created and can't be changed later. Create a new plan or duplicate it instead.

- New plans start disabled. Activate them when you're ready.

- Only add published courses and library items as add-ons. The MCP doesn't stop you adding a draft yet.

## Onboarding, home page and branding

Shape what new and existing members see when they arrive, and how your community looks.

**About page**

- Change the banner image, tagline, description and video (YouTube, Vimeo or Wistia)

- Show or hide the member count and pricing

- Add, edit, reorder and delete FAQs

**Onboarding**

- Turn the welcome screen on or off, edit its title, description and video, and choose whether all members or only new members see it

- Turn the introduction step on or off, edit its title and description, pick the introductions channel, and choose who sees it

- Set which default profile fields are asked at sign-up, required, or shown on profiles

- Edit the welcome email (sent when a membership request is approved) and the invitation email

**Where people land**

- Choose the default page for members, new members, logged-in non-members and logged-out visitors: a channel or a menu tab (Home, Feed, Courses, Library, Newsletter, Events)

- New members can also land on the About page, and logged-out visitors can be sent to a landing page or another website

**Home page**

- Turn the customized Home page on or off

- Edit the announcement card: title, formatted text and image

- Show or hide the member channels, new members, suggested content and upcoming events sections

- Choose how many days of new members and upcoming events to show (7, 12 or 28)

- Add, remove and reorder suggested content

**Branding**

- Upload the community cover image, logo and favicon

- Pick a theme preset, set your own brand color, or switch the theme style

- Reset branding to the default

- Show or hide menu items: Feed, Courses, Library, Newsletter, Events, Messages, Profile, Invite, People and Billing

**Example prompts**

- _"Turn on the welcome screen for new members with this video."_

- _"Send new members to the Courses tab when they join."_

- _"Change our brand color to #0E5EC2 and hide the Newsletter tab."_

**Good to know**

- Image sizes: About banner 1040×334, Home announcement image 695×254.

- Logged-in non-members and logged-out visitors land on the About page by default.

- Videos you uploaded in the app can't be put back through the MCP. Re-select them in the app.

## Moderation

Work through membership requests, posts waiting for approval and flagged content.

**Review**

- See the full moderation queue and its counts: membership requests, pending posts, and flagged posts and newsletter comments

- Open any item to read its full text, author and channel

- Read a membership applicant's profile, requested plan and screening answers

**Take action**

- Approve or decline membership requests

- Approve or reject posts waiting for approval

- Keep or remove flagged content

- Handle several items in one go, with every decision listed for you to check before it runs

**Example prompts**

- _"What's waiting in the moderation queue?"_

- _"Approve the membership requests that answered the screening question, and show me the rest."_

**Good to know**

- Removing content can't be undone.

- Declining a paid membership request cancels the subscription without a refund. The assistant warns you first.

## Analytics

Ask for the numbers on your Analytics dashboard, for any date range, without building a report.

**Growth and engagement**

- Total members, new members, active members, posts, comments, visits, membership requests and direct messages

- Visits split by Web, iOS and Android

- Several metrics in one question, for any date range (last 7, 28 or 60 days, or your own dates)

- The change from the previous period, as a number and a percentage, like the dashboard

- This week compared with last week

- Day-by-day trends for members, active members, posts, comments, visits, membership requests and direct messages

**Members**

- The Members Activity table: posts, comments and visit days per member, searchable and sortable

- A single member's activity totals

**Courses, library, newsletters and landing pages**

- Enrolments per course, course completion bands, each learner's progress and completed lessons

- Views and access per library item

- Newsletter views, unique views, leads, comments and likes

- Landing page views, unique views and leads

- Search, sort and page through any of these tables

**Example prompts**

- _"How did September compare with August for active members and posts?"_

- _"Which courses have the most learners stuck below 25%?"_

- _"Show me daily visits for the last 28 days."_

**Good to know:** date ranges use UTC, the same as the dashboard. Library view history starts from when view tracking began.

## Done in the GroupApp app

A few things are still done directly in GroupApp rather than through your AI assistant.

- **Payments:** Charge members, issue refunds, and move a member to a paid plan

- **Library:** Upload or replace video, audio and PDF files

- **Schedule:** Unschedule an email that's already scheduled

- **Courses:** Delete a learning pathway

- **Home page:** Reorder the Home page sections

Everything else on this page can be done by asking your AI assistant. New capabilities are added regularly and show up in your assistant automatically.
