This is the master checklist for launching your Branded Mobile App. Work through it in order — each item links to a detailed guide.
Start with Part 1 today. Creating and verifying developer accounts is the slowest part of the whole process and everything else waits on it. The brand work in Part 3 can happen in parallel while you wait.
New to all of this? Read Giving GroupApp Developer Access: What We Need and Why first for the short version of what is coming and why.
Your app is published from developer accounts registered in your name. There are two, and you pay the store fees directly.
Apple and Google both require a D-U-N-S number to register a developer account as a business. It is free, but can take up to 30 days, so request it before anything else. Skip this only if you are registering as an individual.
How to Set Up Your D-U-N-S Number for Your Branded App
99 USD per year, paid to Apple. We recommend enrolling as an Organization — on an Individual membership Apple will not let us access the signing resources needed to build your app.
How to Create an Apple Developer Account
25 USD one-time, paid to Google. Again, choose Organization — personal accounts must run a 12-tester closed test for 14 days before they can publish, which can add weeks to your launch.
How to Create a Google Developer Account
Google requires identity verification before anything can be published. You will need two documents, and the details must match your payments profile exactly.
How to Verify Your Google Developer Account
Once your accounts are live and verified, invite [email protected] to both. This is what lets us build, sign, and publish your app for you. You stay the account owner throughout.
Invite us as an Admin in App Store Connect. There are two small extras here that only you can do: switching on App Store Connect API access, and clearing any pending Apple agreements.
How to Add GroupApp to Your Apple Developer Account (App Store Connect)
Invite us with Admin (all permissions) at the account level, and leave the access expiry blank. It takes about two minutes.
How to Add GroupApp as an Admin to Your Google Play Console
You do not need a Google Cloud project, a Firebase project, or a Codemagic account. We handle all of the build and release infrastructure on our side. If you have seen older instructions asking for these, you can ignore them.
You can work on all of this while your accounts are being verified. Everything below is explained in one guide, with character limits, file requirements, examples, and what to avoid:
GroupApp Brand Identity & Store Listing Guidelines
That guide is the one to read properly. Here is what it will ask you to prepare, so you know what to gather:
App name — max 30 characters. If you already have a GroupApp community, use the same name or something very close.
Tagline — max 50 characters, shown beneath your app name on the App Store.
App icon — PNG, at least 1024 × 1024 px, square, no rounded corners, no transparency, no text.
Logo — SVG, max 2 MB. This is separate from your icon and appears on the splash and login screens.
Brand colour
Short description and full description
Keywords for the App Store
Category and age rating
Support URL, privacy policy URL, and terms of service URL. Both stores require a working privacy policy — if you do not have one live yet, sort this early, as it is a common cause of rejection.
Worried your app name might get rejected? Branded Mobile App Naming Guidelines covers Apple's and Google's specific naming rules in more detail.
Once your accounts are set up, we have been invited to both, and your brand assets are ready, fill out this form and our support team will take it from there:
Submit your Branded App details
From that point we register your bundle ID and package name, create your app records, set up signing, connect our build system, and produce a first build for you to test before it goes live.
